Tbilisi City Hall

Tbilisi’s municipal building was built during the 1880’s and is another example of pseudo-Mauritanian architectural style. The “common oriental” style is the prominent architectural style during 19th century and its influence is apparent in several buildings scattered throughout Tbilisi.  In 1878, the City Council declared a competition to construct and design a new building for City Council. Two façades which are kept in Georgian State Art Museum, date back to 1882. They were designed by architects Ozerovi and Shteineri. Shteineri won the competition and designed the City Coucil’s building complete with turrets and a beautiful clock.
