Chughureti St. Nicholas Church

On the left bank  of the Mtkvari on K.Khetagurovi street St. Nicholas church is located. At first  St. cross appearing church  was built on this very place in 1815 , which in 1857-1859 was restored by the archpriest  Ioane Imnaidze and he  built to the church a burial vault- gate in the west , a little later in 1861-1863  the dome was built on the church by the archpriest Petre Imnaidze( Ioane’s  son) , the dome is supported by opseds and  by the protrudings of the wall, in this period the western gate was altered as  an arm of the church and it  opens towards the underdome space  with a wide arch. In 1900-1902  next to the narrow pastophorii  a bigger  ware house  was built.
The entrances  of the church are on three sides: in western and the  northern  arms facing each other, and in the center of the western arm.
The facades of the long arms of the church  are identical: narrow, on the top of the arch type  wooden door, a little bit beyond , the window under the pediment   is  located between the windows.  All the third windows are surrounded with frame having the complicated  profile relief. In the corners of the pediment  and  in the edge corners of it  the crosses are  made by the deepening of the brick layer. In the corners of the church arms, the  narrow helmet type niches are located.
On the  top of the western door the elements of classicism are observed:  the arches supported by the small columns of the Dorian order, that on their side support the cross that  is located on the step and is  inscribed in the  rhomb type halo.
The most remarkable is the eastern façade, the alter is lighted with the flat , arch type  window   that is   placed in the double frame. On its both sides the  image of crosses that are placed on the  steps are placed. On the top of the window  the medal, made of brick , is depicted. The composition is completed  with the equal armed crosses , placed under the pediment . The Dorian pilasters are given. The light reaches to the pastophorii via the small windows   placed in  the lower part of the wall and  from the round aperture  placed  above. The  narrow windows of the dome are surrounded with arches in which the brick ornaments are inscribed. The  constant belt of the ornaments  is given under the  profiled corniceThe painting by G. Zaziashvili ( 1900ieth )  still can be seen  in the interior.
